A pioneering partnership between BCHC and a leading firm of medical weighing equipment manufacturers is on the path to developing a new set of scales for people in a wheelchair. The project was initiated by community dietitians who routinely have to carry a bulky set of apparatus into the homes of people across Birmingham who are tube-fed.
Mendelian’s flagship product MendelScan, searches electronic health records for indicators of rare, or hard to diagnose diseases. Algorithms developed from published diagnostic criteria are used to flag patients at risk and a clinical report is generated, providing suggested next steps to take in the diagnostic pathway.
getUBetter is a digital self-management platform for common musculoskeletal injuries and conditions. The platform provides self-management recovery support for patients, through personalised, evidence-based behaviour change techniques. Each element of the care pathway is configured to the local health system and then delivered to their population. Patients can self-refer or can be prescribed during virtual or face-to-face consultations.
FibriCheck provides timely detection of heart rhythm disorders, including atrial fibrillation (AF). Patients can self-monitor heart rate and rhythm at home by placing a finger on the camera of their smartphone. The software can be used in prevention, early detection and follow-up.
Feebris’ remote patient monitoring software captures patient vital signs using AI to improve accuracy and process data, triaging patients according to clinically validated risk frameworks. Using machine learning algorithms, the system analyses the data to provide escalation recommendations and decision support, upskilling the existing workforce and improving patient outcomes. The mobile-based software platform allows users to confidently detect and triage deterioration without clinical training.
Peppy provides personalised support to help people navigate different key life stages: early parenthood, the menopause, fertility journeys and men’s health. Peppy connects users to trained clinical practitioners that can provide support and transfer users to statutory or employer/insurance-provided services for follow-up.
‘Living with ADHD’ is a new video in which children, families and clinicians from Sheppey talk about Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and the benefits of early diagnosis. As well as providing first-hand insights about living with ADHD, it also highlights the benefits of using an objective assessment tool to provide accurate diagnosis.
Social Rx is an end-to-end social prescribing solution. This means that GPs can make easy referrals into social prescribing, and these referrals can be managed by link workers. Patients can then be referred into practical, local services to help improve their wellbeing. Our dashboards and reports provide useful insights into patient wellbeing, service booking activity and referral sources, amongst other things.

Vitacam is a CE marked, software-based medical device that uses webcams and smartphone cameras to measure a patient's pulse and respiratory rate from video. By tracking chest movements and minute colour changes in the face caused by pulsatile blood flow, the system provides a contactless method of gathering observations. It’s especially useful to detect early signs of deterioration in elderly care settings. Respiratory rate in is often unmeasured due to a lack of time, training or resources.The roadmap includes more vital parameters to get a more complete set of observations.
